1 killed, toddler grazed in drive-by shooting on Southwest Side

CHICAGO (CBS) – Police are searching for a suspect after an adult was killed and an infant grazed by a bullet in a drive-by shooting near the Heart of Chicago neighborhood late Wednesday morning.
Police said the shooting happened on the otherwise quiet 2400 block of South Oakley Avenue.
A 35-year-old man was driving north on Oakley, when another vehicle pulled up and someone opened fire, according to police. Investigators said they believe the assailant’s vehicle was a teal-colored sports car.
The man was pronounced dead on the scene; he’d been shot in the head and body. His vehicle crashed into a few nearby cars before first responders arrived.
A 6-month-old boy who was in the back seat of the man’s car suffered a graze wound to the right cheek. The boy was taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
Investigators say there were no other reported injuries.
The vehicle involved in the shooting fled the scene heading south on Oakley, police said.
No one is in custody at this time. Officers flooded the street for about an hour after the shooting, gathering evidence.
Aside from the commotion from law enforcement, neighbors CBS Chicago spoke with off-camera said they didn’t even hear the shots.
The relationship between the two victims was not immediately clear.
